Antique George E. Curtis Stereoview – No. 263 Whirlpool Rapids, Niagara Falls
£10.00
Add a piece of 19th-century "virtual reality" to your collection with this original stereoview by acclaimed Niagara photographer George E. Curtis. Titled "Whirlpool Rapids" (No. 263), this card captures the raw power of the Niagara River against the silhouette of the historic suspension bridge. Curtis was a master of capturing water in motion, and this sepia-toned albumen print remains a striking example of his craftsmanship. Mounted on the classic 1870s orange cardstock, the reverse side provides a detailed description of the rapids, noting they are "30 to 40 feet high" and "the largest in the World". It also mentions an elevator built for visitors and an advertisement for George N. Shepard's "Fancy Goods" shop.
Date: Circa 1870s–1880s.
Condition: Excellent vintage condition. The images are clear with strong contrast; the mount shows light corner wear consistent with age.
Type: Stereographic photo
