This card captures a fascinating historical phenomenon: the Niagara Falls Ice Bridge. During particularly harsh 19th-century winters, ice pushing over the falls would freeze solid across the Niagara River gorge, creating a massive natural bridge of ice up to 40 or 50 feet thick. This dangerous practice was completely banned in February 1912 after a sudden ice break-away tragically swept several tourists down the river.

Photographer: Charles Bierstadt (1819–1903) was a prolific photographer based in Niagara Falls, renowned for his stereoscopic views that captured the grandeur of the falls for a global audience.

Date: Circa 1880–1889.

Condition: Authentic vintage condition. The tones are clear with decent contrast. Clear images with minor age-related foxing and light corner wear.
