Description: This stereoview captures "The Trossachs Pier at Loch Katrine" in the Scottish Highlands. Taken around 1859, the image features a distinctive rustic thatched-roof wooden pier, rowboats resting on the shore, and a small steamship or ferry docked alongside. The dramatic rocky outcrop in the background is beautifully reflected in the glass-still water of the loch. The label on the back quotes Sir Walter Scott’s incredibly famous 1810 romantic narrative poem, "The Lady of the Lake". Scott’s poem single-handedly romanticised the Scottish Highlands, sparking a massive Victorian tourism boom. Victorians loved buying these stereoviews as travel souvenirs.

Photographer: George Washington Wilson. An identical copy of this same George Washington Wilson view ("Loch Katrine-The Trossachs Pier 1859") resides in the Royal Collection Trust, having been acquired by Queen Elizabeth II.

Condition: The card is in decent condition for its age.
