Description: A nice original, antique CDV (Carte de Visite) photograph of The Rt. Hon. William Ewart Gladstone. Gladstone was UK Prime Minister for four separate spells between 1868 and 1894. A major figure in 19th-century politics, he gave his name to 'Gladstonian liberalism', which was characterised by support for free trade and the promotion of political reforms. Gladstone was known as Queen Victoria's Prime Minister.

The bottom of the CDV bears the feint inscription "The Rt. Hon. W. E. Gladstone" and a partial studio name.
