Oval mounted vintage photo of Giggleswick Scar with Ebbing and Flowing Well
£18.00
Description: A lovely vintage landscape photograph of the Settle/Giggleswick Scar in Yorkshire. The photo is taken from the scar edge, overlooking the valley, and is in nice clean condition, very sharp. The photo is mounted in a large oval-shaped mount board, which has a little water damage. The reverse of the photo bears the handwritten inscription "Hunts? Bank outside Settle with Ebbing & flowing well."
Photographer: Unknown
Date: c. 1900
Provenance: The Ebbing & Flowing well is a famous and ancient stone trough, situated by the roadside beneath Giggleswick Scar, sited just across from the entrance to Huntworth (I presume this is what the "Hunts?" comment refers to). The well has long been thought of as a holy and magickal well
Size: 38cm x 30 cm
