Rare Victorian CDV Portrait - Royal Artillery Lieutenant

A nicely detailed CDV of a Lieutenant in the Royal Artillery. Identified by the single Bath Star on the collar and the subaltern’s Austrian knot braid on the cuffs, the distinctive "Gunner" badge and a highly detailed Royal Artillery belt plate featuring the Royal Coat of Arms.

Period: Late Victorian. The "VR" cypher on the buttons confirms service under Queen Victoria. The uniform style and CDV format suggest a date in the 1880s. Subject: A young officer in full-dress/undress tunic, holding a Gothic-hilted officer's sword.

The reverse features the highly decorative green-ink "backmark" showcasing the Prince of Wales's feathers and royal appointments.

Condition: The image retains nice contrast and sharpness for a CDV. The square-edged card mount is clean, without bumps, creases or tears.

Photographer: The London Stereoscopic & Photographic Company, 54 Cheapside and 108/110 Regent Street, London.
